Week of Feb. 15

Friday
Collected the thinking maps on the causes of WWI.
Viewed two video snippets on background tensions leading to WWI and the assassination of the heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne.
Homework
Assassination of Franz Ferdinand w/s (crossword on the back). You are a reporter covering the visit of Archduke Franz Ferdinand to Sarajevo. Using the worksheet and your notes from the videos, design a newspaper's front page with details of the assassination.
Complete the crossword and learn terms for future test.

Science Fair Expo Day - Special Schedule




Wednesday
Students used the Europe Overseas handout to answer questions on the Europe Overseas Qiuz Part I. This was due at the end of the period.
Students received the WWI from A to Z handout to study.
Homework
Study terms and definitions on the A to Z handout.




Tuesday
Collected the TR summaries from Friday.
Read and discussed handout on The Causes of World War I.
Homework
Create a thinking map (bubble map) of the mnemonic ANIMAL (the causes) (pages 2 through 4), and briefly state why each was a factor leading to WWI. Due Friday.

Collected the Lucy Stone questions, the Cornell Notes of Ch. 23 S3, and the Chapter 23 Assessment (pages 674-675).
Graded last week's Ch. 20 & 21 Test. Watched and took notes on a History Channel video on Teddy Roosevelt's part in the construction of the Panama Canal.
Homework
Write a summary of your notes.

Complete the following sections of the Chapter 23 Assessment (pages 674-675):
- Define the terms in the section Terms & Names (write the term, followed by the definition)
- Review Questions #1-10 ~ must be in complete sentences

Wednesday
Cornell Notes on textbook pp. 668-673 (Roman numeral, capital letter, number, lower case letter, dash; remember ONLY the Roman numeral goes to the left of the red margin; remember to indent slightly each time and align characters that are the same all the way down the page). Leave room for mini thinking map on the right.
Homework
Develop questions in the left margin - ONE question for EACH capital letter. The questions should be answered by what you have in the corresponding notes section.
Create ONE mini thinking map for ANY ONE capital letter (do this on the right hand side of the page). Do a summary of the entire section (what you have in the notes)at the end (one good paragraph).

Students discovered which African and Asian countries were governed by European powers during the Age of Imperialism (pre-1914) by coloring maps of both continents.
Homework
Finish maps. Test on Chapters 20 & 21 next Tuesday.


Thursday
Graded and reviewed answers to Ch 22 S1 and S2 w/s; collected thinking maps of those sections.
Reviewed progress made by women in the 19th century. Students developed two cartoons on the pros and cons of women having the right to vote. Several students presented, and the cartoons were all collected.

Students took notes as they watched a brief video on President Grant. They then summarized their notes in a paragraph, including a topic sentence, three facts, and a concluding sentence. This was then collected.
