Week of Aug. 23

Friday
Half day - abbreviated schedule.
I checked homework (p. 345, #3a) - (did not collect it).
As a class, we continued taking Cornell Notes on Chapter 11 Section 1: Early Industry and Inventions.
Homework
None

Thursday
Showed students how to create an account for the online textbook and how to use it.
Since several people had issues with getting an account last night, I will check for last night's homework tomorrow, along with tonight's.
As a class, we continued taking Cornell Notes on Chapter 11 Section 1: Early Industry and Inventions.
Homework
Textbook p. 345, #1 - learn terms and definitions (use same paper as last night's homework).

Wednesday
Students were introduced to my expectations for completing Cornell Notes.
I gave each student a spiral-bound notebook (to be kept in class). We will use the notebooks for Cornell Notes. We formatted the notebook and then, as a class, worked together through the first part of Chapter 11 Section 1: Early Industry and Inventions, taking notes and discussing main ideas and supporting details.
Please note: Students will need to supply their own notebook when this one is full. It might be a good idea to purchase a notebook or two for the second semester now, while prices are still low at the beginning of the school year.
Homework
Textbook p. 345, #3a - answer in complete sentences.

Tuesday
Collected syllabus acknowledgement forms.
Graded the Standards Pre-Test from yesterday (not for a grade).
Watched a History Channel video on the presidencies of Jefferson, Madison, and Monroe. Students took notes and wrote a paragraph on each president, which they then turned in.
Homework
Be sure to have lined paper each day.

Monday
P3 & P4 went over the class syllabus. P7 will cover it tomorrow.
All periods took the Social Studies Standards Pre-Test (not for a grade).
Handout to all periods: Thinking Maps - descriptions and uses.
Students had time to begin work on their homework.
Homework
P3 & P4 - Review the material in the Social Studies syllabus. Display the most important information using the Thinking Map of your choice.
P3 & P4 - Get forms signed (green half-sheet and yellow - both sides!). Return them tomorrow.
