Week of April 26

Friday
Read and discussed Ch 26 S2 - Roosevelt and the New Deal.
Students were encouraged to take notes that would help them with their 1930s PowerPoint.
Homework
Textbook p. 738, #1, 2, and 3. #3 in complete sentences.
Continue with the 1930s research. PowerPoints are due May 10.



Wednesday and Thursday
Students continued their 1930s PowerPoint assignment in the lab.
Homework
Continue work at home if necessary. A thumb drive would be helpful. Here are the directions, rubric (bottom of page), and links to use.



Tuesday
No Period 3 today due to incoming 7th grade orientation.
Period 2 - Final presentations; research using the textbooks, then continued research on the 1930s in the lab.
Period 7 - Continued presentations on the 1920s; last ones will be on Friday

Monday
Checked/collected notes and summaries from Friday (P3).
I introduced and students began working on the research for the 1930s PowerPoint. We will have four days this week, and two next week, to work in the computer lab. Presentations will begin May 10. I will need to have received the PowerPoints by then.

Friday
Checked homework.
Watched American Experience's rendition of The Crash of 1929. Students took notes.
Homework
Write a paragraph summarizing the video and comparing it to what you learned yesterday.



Thursday
We read and discussed Chapter 26 Section 1: Hoover and the Crash before continuing with presentations.
Homework
Textbook p. 729, #1 and 3. #3 in complete sentences.

Week of April 12

Tuesday through Friday
AIMS testing. Students will have one core class each day.
In Social Studies we will be grading the WWI and Treaty of Versailles test and then watching the remainder of The Lost Battalion. Respond to these prompts in one paragraph:
- Describe your feelings after the movie.
- Did the commander (the major) do the right thing in holding the ground? Why or why not?



Monday
Final day in computer lab, working on the 1920s PowerPoints.

Be aware of updated deadline (see above) above.

Friday
Students watched part of the WWI movie The Lost Battaion.

Thursday
Students continued their research of the 1920s.
Homework
If not complete, finish the PowerPoint over the weekend. If e-mailing to me, I must have the it by next Tuesday morning. If uncertain whether it will work, send me a test e-mail of a simple 2-slide PowerPoint beforehand.




Wednesday
Students began their research of the 1920s. The PowerPoints created today and tomorrow will be shown to the class next week, when they tell the other students what they have learned.
Homework
Last call for The Lost Battalion permission slips! Bring in a flash/thumb drive if you have one, or be ready to e-mail the PowerPoint to yourself to work on at home over the weekend. If e-mailing to me, I must have the it by next Tuesday morning. If uncertain whether it will work, send me a test e-mail of a 2-slide PowerPoint beforehand.



Tuesday
Students took the WWI and Treaty of Versailles test.
We then discussed the 1920s research project that will take place over the next two days.
Homework
Have you turned in your movie permission slip?
Do you have a thumb or flash drive you could bring in for the 1920s PowerPoint you'll be creating and presenting?



Monday
Collected Thinking Maps from Ch 25 S1.
Read and discussed textbook p. 713 ff. (Ch 25 S2 - Changes in Society and S3 - The Jazz Age and the Harlem Renaissance).
Homework
Create a thinking map (brace or tree maps are most suited to this) with the headings Popular Culture and Society using information from the sections we just read.
Study for the test tomorrow.
