Week of Nov. 29

Friday
Quarters for Caring Fair was introduced. We discussed the rubric and guidelines.
Handout: Notecard paper for the research paper.
Students worked in groups to brainstorm activities for their booths.
Homework
We'll cover the bibliography on Monday. The research report is due Dec. 8.



Thursday
Students had time to work on the outline and rough draft in class.
Homework
I will hand out the notecard paper and discuss the bibliography tomorrow. The research report in all its parts is due Dec. 8.



Wednesday
I collected the thinking map.
Handouts: Research Paper Rubric and Outline.
Students began work on their research paper. I showed examples of good and not-so-good reports and discussed expectations. Students worked on the outline in class.
Homework
Fill in any gaps in your research at home. Be prepared to write the rough draft in class tomorrow. The research report is due Dec. 8.

Students turned in the Thinking Maps.
They read Ch 21 S1 and S2 w/s.
Students had time to work on their homework.

We read and discussed Ch 20 S2 w/s, and answered the questions.
Students had a chance to work on their homework.

Tuesday
7th grade field trip



Monday
I collected the thinking map.
Periods 3 and 4 had their final day of country research in the computer lab. Period 7 had extra time to read, check for "no-name" papers, and discuss the upcoming research paper.

Handout: Extra Enrichtment opportunity - acrostic poem . Due Dec. 6.

We read and discussed Ch 20 S1 w/s.
Students had time to work on their homework.

I collected the thinking maps from yesterday.
We spent time in the lab researching the history, culture, and economy of the country the students had chosen.

Wednesday
We went to the library for print information on our countries. Each student needs at least ONE print resource for their research report. Students then completed Ch 19 S4 w/s.
Homework
One thinking map on the information in the w/s.



Tuesday
I collected the thinking maps from yesterday.

Week of Nov. 8

Friday
I collected the thinking map.
As a class, we read Ch 18 S3 w/s and Ch 19 S1 w/s, answering the questions as we went. The graphic organizers under "As You Read" were to be filled in as well. Students had time to work on their homework.

Thursday
No School - Veterans Day


Wednesday
I collected the Civil War Battles and Camp Life Chart.
Students took the Civil War test. Most had time to begin their homework.
Homework
Chapter 18 S2 w/s. Read, answer the questions, and create a thinking map of your choice (no circle or double-bubble maps).


Tuesday
I collected the thinking maps.
Students took the mid-point 7th grade history standards test (not for a grade, but they will get some points if they get at least 60%).
Homework
Study for tomorrow's test. Camp Life and Civil War Battles Chart is also due tomorrow.


Monday
I checked Journal Entry #17.
As a class, we read Ch 17 S4 w/s and Ch 18 S1 w/s, answering the questions as we went. The graphic organizers under "As You Read" were to be filled in as well. Students had time to work on their homework.

Note: The test on the Civil War is Wednesday. Civil War Battles and Camp Life Chart is due the same day.

Week of Nov. 1

Friday
I checked Journal Entry #16.
Students presented the 1865 interviews from Petersburg and Appomattox before participating in the play "Grant and Lee Meet Again."

Thursday
Students watched and took notes on a History Channel video on Sherman's March to the Sea.

Wednesday
I collected the Three Famous Americans in the Civil War packet.
Students finished Cornell Notes on Chapter 17 Section 3, did the questions for each capital letter, and a summary of their notes.
They then had time to study the three study guides for the test and work on the Civil War Battles and Camp Life w/s (due day of test).
Homework
Civil War Test - Nov. 10.

2. Three Famous Americans Packet
The other side of the Civil War Land Battles w/s (simply titled “The Civil War”) needs to be kept and studied for the upcoming test. You will need to know the info, and also how to spell the key terms and names.
