Theatres of War is a study guide - I will check that it is done on Friday.

Friday
I collected the answers to questions #1-10 from the Weapons of WWI handout.
Students watched and took notes on a documentary about innovations in naval warfare during WWI [Killers of the Sea - WWI in Color].
Homework
Journal Entry #9
If you were absent Friday, research the importance of the Battle of Jutland, Gallipoli, the Lusitania, and U-boats in WWI. Write up your findings and turn in when you return (and use your finding in your journal entry).



Thursday
I checked Journal Entry #8.
Handout: First World War Weapons
We read and discussed the handout. Students had time to work on the homework in class, and also time to study for the upcoming test.
Homework
Questions 1-10 in complete sentences (except for #1).


Wednesday
Students took notes as they watched a video on the advances in airpower during WWI [Blood in the Air - WWI in Color].

Tuesday
I checked Journal Entry #7 and collected the Trenches Crossword.
Students took Cornell Notes on Chapter 24 S1 of their textbook.
Homework
Study terms, definitions, study guides, 1914 map of Europe.
First WWI test is on March 2nd or 3rd and will include a map portion.



Monday
I checked Journal Entry #6.
We read a newspaper article about the last survivor of the 1914 Christmas Truce.
Handout: The Christmas Truce letter
We read and discussed the letter.
Handout: The Trenches Crossword
Students used the two enlarged pictures from The Trenches Packet from last week to solve the crossword.
Homework
Journal Entry #6 - you have experienced the ceasefire at Christmas.

Week of Feb. 7

Friday
I checked Journal Entry #5 and collected the Over the Top w/s (if you didn't turn it in yesterday) as well as the questions from the Life in the Trenches handout.
Students watched and took notes on a video about the war in the trenches and how tanks influenced the war [Strachan ...Blockade].
Homework
Journal Entry #6 - use what you learned today from the video.



Thursday
Students engaged in a another simulation of trench warfare during WWI, this time going over the top. Part of the activity included finding the definitions of terms related to WWI trench warfare.
Homework
Journal Entry #5. Trench questions are due tomorrow.



Wednesday
I checked Journal Entry #4 and collected the Trench Mission w/s.
Handouts: Waterlogged Trenches; Trench Food; Life in the Trenches
We read and discussed life in the trenches; many accounts were from primary sources.
Homework
From Life in the Trenches, #1, 2, and 3. Complete sentences for #2 and 3.
This assignment is due Friday (there may be time in class tomorrow to work on this).



Tuesday
Students engaged in a simulation of trench warfare during WWI and had to decide, as a commander, which technologies (tanks, machine guns, Zeppelins, etc.) to implement when faced with four scenarios. For each mission, students wrote down (use bullets) what worked, what did not work, what the outcome was, and what they learned (about fighting in the trenches with the technologies available to them).
I collected the worksheets.
Homework
Journal Entry #4, using information learned in today's simulation.


Monday
Cornell Notes catch-up day.
Students reviewed their notebooks and added questions and summaries where necessary.
Handout: Map of Europe 1914
Student answered the questions and labeled the map.
Homework
Finish the map w/s if necessary. Review your study guides.
